IIE Digital Desk: The theatrical run of Shahid Kapoor's Cocktail 2 is now in its last week, having spent four weeks in theaters. The movie made a strong debut and achieved 100,000 domestic box office profits last year, but it has not been able to fully recover its production cost through theatrical earnings in India.

The romantic drama, directed by Homi Adajania, stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in leading roles. Prior to its release, the film was advertised as a spiritual follow-up to the 2012 smash Cocktail, garnering significant buzz from audiences and opening to positive reviews. The arrival of several major films in the following weeks caused a slowdown in its box-office momentum.

Trade estimates indicate that Cocktail 2 made approximately 6 lakh on its 27th day in theaters, which is equivalent to roughly 104.33 crore in its total domestic earnings of around Rs1.5 million. The film's Indian theatrical release has recouped almost 95 percent of its cost, and it was produced with a reported budget of nearly 110 crore. Despite the significant decrease in the number of screens, the possibility of complete restoration through cinema collections seems slim. Although the film did not recover entirely on its own, it has made some impressive contributions. However, other achievements have been few. Among the Hindi releases in 2026, it has achieved higher revenue and exceeded the original Cocktail's lifetime domestic earnings. This is noteworthy. Shahid Kapoor's film was the initial post-pandemic release in Indian cinema to cross the 100-crore mark.

The film has achieved good results in foreign markets. Reports indicate that it has amassed a global collection of almost 166 crore, with overseas territories contributing over CS42 crore. In the domestic market, there had been intense competition for time; this global response helped to boost the film's overall commercial performance.

According to trade analysts, the film's financial future appears to be improving as a result of additional revenue streams beyond its theatrical output. Despite the challenges of modern entertainment industry, the profitability of the film is expected to be heavily reliant on digital streaming rights, satellite deals, and music rights. The lead actors, Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna, were also highly successful in their performances in the movie's trailers. Both the romantic plot and soundtrack of the film were positively reviewed by audiences. Despite the release of several high-budget films during its theatrical run, it was unable to maintain strong collections for an extended period.

With its last installment set to hit theaters on January 19th, Cocktail 2 can be regarded as a solid box-office hit that achieved significant success and garnered adoration. While it didn't achieve the status of a blockbuster, the film has made resounding commercial success and widespread popularity in India as well as abroad.
