Many netizens argued that Kangana herself has played bold and challenging roles in films, and they questioned the basis of her criticism of young people. The criticism led the actress to respond and clarify the difference between an actor’s screen roles and real-life identity.
To answer her critics, Kangana shared an old video of her speech in Parliament on social media. In the video, she explained that the characters portrayed by an actor on screen should not be connected with their personal behaviour or real-life personality.
Kangana said that she was paid for the characters she played in films and that those roles were created within a controlled environment involving film sets, security arrangements, directors, and an entire production team. She stated that using scenes from movies to suggest that teenagers should behave in the same manner in real life sends a completely wrong message.
She further said that if people give wrong lessons to other people’s children today, the impact of such actions could eventually affect their own families in the future. According to Kangana, cinema and real life should never be considered the same.
The video shared by Kangana is from the time of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During that period, the BJP fielded her as a candidate from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh. During the election campaign, a controversy erupted over a social media post by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate.
The post allegedly used an image of one of Kangana’s film characters and was criticised as offensive. However, Supriya Shrinate later claimed that she had not personally made the post and that her social media account had been misused.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Kangana had said that she is an artist and has played various types of characters throughout her career, including roles of a gangster, sex worker, and drug addict. She also highlighted that she had received national awards for her performances.
She stated that using images of her film characters to personally attack her was inappropriate because those roles were only part of her professional work as an actor and did not represent her real identity.
Kangana’s recent remarks about a section of the Gen Z generation have also created a major debate. She criticised some young people over alleged objectionable comments made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leading to discussions across political circles and social media platforms.
Her latest response to trolls has once again brought the debate over cinema, personal identity, freedom of criticism, and the responsibilities of public figures into focus. While her supporters have defended her views, critics continue to question the tone of her comments regarding the younger generation.
