Salman Khan is set to construct a six-storey residential building on a property located in Mumbai's Bandra neighbourhood. The land, where the new structure will come up, is reportedly registered in the name of his mother, Salma Khan. The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) granted approval for the proposed construction project on June 16, clearing the way for its development. Despite these reports, neither Salman Khan nor any member of the Khan family has officially confirmed that they intend to vacate Galaxy Apartments.
The proposed residential building is expected to be constructed in Bandra's Chimbai area, only a short distance from Galaxy Apartments. Reports indicate that the property once housed a two-storey structure, which was demolished in 1956 after being declared structurally unsafe. The new development will consist of a ground floor, stilt parking and six residential floors, with a total built-up area of approximately 1,014 square metres. The project is reportedly being developed by Such Developers.
The discussion surrounding Salman Khan's residence comes against the backdrop of heightened security concerns. In 2024, alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang reportedly opened fire outside Galaxy Apartments, triggering a major security response. Following the incident, security around the actor's residence was significantly strengthened, and Salman Khan continued to receive Y+ category security protection.
The enhanced security measures in a later interview, Salman Khan revealed that bulletproof glass and several additional protective features had been installed at his residence to prevent any unauthorised access through the balcony. He also recalled that, in earlier years, devoted fans would often climb near the balcony or even spend the night outside his home in hopes of catching a glimpse of him. As a result, the balcony has now been enclosed with additional security arrangements.
Despite living one of the most glamorous lifestyles in Indian cinema, Salman Khan has repeatedly expressed his emotional attachment to Galaxy Apartments. During a television interview in 2017, the actor revealed that he had never felt the need to move into a lavish bungalow because he was happiest living in his apartment, where his parents reside on the floor directly above him.
Salman explained that he has travelled the same road home since childhood and that the apartment building holds countless cherished memories. He fondly recalled spending his childhood playing with other children in the building's garden, sometimes even falling asleep there after long hours of play. Visiting neighbours' homes for meals and growing up in a close-knit community were among the experiences that made Galaxy Apartments more than just a residence—it became an inseparable part of his life.
While reports of the new residential project have fuelled speculation about a possible move, the Khan family has yet to make any official announcement regarding their future plans. Until then, Galaxy Apartments continues to remain not only Salman Khan's long-time home but also one of the most iconic celebrity addresses in the country, deeply associated with the actor's personal journey and enduring connection with his fans.
