IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Washington, June 4: US President Donald Trump faced a significant setback in the House of Representatives over the issue of war against Iran, as the American legislature passed a proposal aimed at curbing his authority in military actions related to Iran. The proposal was passed with a narrow margin of 7 votes.

Total of 215 votes were cast in favor of the resolution, while 208 lawmakers voted against it. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that the war must come to an end, arguing that it is draining US taxpayers’ money and weakening the country’s financial condition.

The resolution was introduced in the lower house by Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks from New York. His proposal received 215 votes in support and 208 votes in opposition. Notably, four Republican lawmakers—Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson—also supported the resolution.

The passage of the proposal in the lower chamber, speculation has intensified that there may be growing internal dissatisfaction within Trump’s own party regarding the Iran conflict and its continuation.
