IIE DIGITAL DESK : Maruti Suzuki has reported a significant surge in sales for its Swift hatchback, while its compact SUV, the Brezza, experienced a slight decline in April 2025. The Swift's remarkable performance underscores its continued popularity in the Indian market, whereas the Brezza's dip highlights the increasing competition in the compact SUV segment.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift sold 14,592 units, marking a 256% increase from 4,094 units sold in the same month the previous year. This growth is attributed to the launch of the fourth-generation Swift in May 2024, which introduced a refreshed design, modern interiors, and advanced features, appealing particularly to younger buyers seeking style and value.

Conversely, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza recorded a minor year-on-year sales decline of 1%, with 16,971 units sold in April 2025 compared to 17,113 units in April 2024. Despite this, the Brezza remains among the top three best-selling cars in India. The slight dip is attributed to intensified competition in the compact SUV market from models like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra Scorpio.

Overall, Maruti Suzuki's total domestic sales remained steady at 1.39 lakh units in April 2025, showing minimal variance from the 1.38 lakh units sold in April 2024. The company's utility vehicle segment, including models like the Brezza, Fronx, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Jimny, Invicto, and XL6, demonstrated robust demand with sales increasing to 59,022 units from 56,553 units.

The contrasting performances of the Swift and Brezza reflect shifting consumer preferences and the dynamic nature of the Indian automotive market. While the Swift's resurgence indicates a strong demand for hatchbacks, the Brezza's slight decline underscores the challenges faced by compact SUVs amid growing competition.

Maruti Suzuki's strategy to focus on both hatchbacks and SUVs appears to be yielding positive results, as evidenced by the overall growth in its utility vehicle segment. The company continues to adapt to market trends, aiming to maintain its leadership position in the Indian automotive industry.
