IIE DIGITAL: After recently announcing that she is expecting her first child, Bengali actor Sohini Sarkar is preparing for the release of a project that has already generated considerable buzz. Her upcoming web series, Ajeya, appears to draw inspiration from the widely discussed RG Kar Hospital case.
Streaming soon on Hoichoi, the series casts Sohini as a fearless police inspector investigating a controversial case that shakes the public. The drama also features Indrashish Roy, Rooqma Ray, Mainak Banerjee, Sagnik, and Sudip Mukherjee. It is directed by Ayan Chakraborti.
The first-look poster sets a tense mood, showing police officers standing amid unrest, burning vehicles, and crowds of protesting women. Promotional material hints at a story where the suspicious death of a young doctor becomes the center of a battle between truth and powerful interests determined to suppress it.
Rather than presenting a fictional crime alone, Ajeya promises a socially relevant narrative inspired by real events, focusing on justice, courage, and the struggle to uncover the truth. The series is scheduled to premiere on August 21.
Sohini had also been one of the prominent voices from the Bengali film industry who publicly reacted to the RG Kar incident. Her comments on women's safety in West Bengal sparked widespread discussion online, making her association with this project particularly significant.
