Relief from uncomfortable heat, storms and rains to continue in South Bengal

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, May 30: Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal have received considerable relief from the intense and uncomfortable heat that had been troubling residents in recent days. Temperatures have fallen slightly, bringing some respite. However, after the rainfall on Friday night, bright sunshine returned on Saturday morning, and people once again experienced warm and humid conditions. According to weather data, the minimum temperature in Kolkata on Saturday morning was 28.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.0 degree above the normal temperature for this time of the year.

The Alipore Meteorological Department, an active trough line and a cyclonic circulation are currently influencing the weather over the region. Due to these atmospheric conditions, a favorable environment for thunderstorms and Kalbaishakhi (Nor'wester) storms has developed across Kolkata and other parts of South Bengal over the next 24 hours. These storms are expected to bring rain, gusty winds, and temporary relief from the prevailing heat.

Meteorologists have stated that from Sunday onward, the frequency and intensity of storms and rainfall across South Bengal are likely to decrease significantly. After that, only a few districts may experience isolated light showers. Despite the reduction in rainfall activity, the current spell of oppressive and uncomfortable heat is expected to remain under control for the time being.

Weather experts have warned that the relief may not last for long. From Monday onward, humidity levels and temperatures are likely to rise again, leading to a gradual return of uncomfortable weather conditions across South Bengal. Residents are therefore expected to experience increasing discomfort due to heat and moisture in the atmosphere as the week progresses.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation and has advised people to stay updated with local forecasts, especially in view of the possibility of thunderstorms and changing weather conditions over the next couple of days.
