Kolkata: The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has disclosed new information in its investigation into an alleged terror group linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, revealing that arrested suspect Hamim Mondal used encrypted messaging platforms and coded language to maintain contact with handlers in Pakistan. The investigators have reason to believe that the communication methods were used in order to avoid being monitored and keep the details of the exchanges confidential.

Element X, an end-to-end encrypted messaging app that has been banned in India, was the initial choice for Hamim, as per STF officials. Following the platform's restrictions, he reportedly switched to another encrypted app, Session, to maintain communication with his overseas supervisors. The police have stated that the two platforms provided more privacy features, which made it harder for agencies to monitor conversations.

According to investigators, Hamim eavesdropped on information and did not provide direct references. The officials think that the use of coded language was a way to conceal operational details and prevent any suspicion from being raised if the messages were intercepted. To determine the scope of the alleged terror network and identify other individuals who may have been involved, the STF is now working to decipher these communications. The investigation has gained momentum since Hamim's arrest in Burdwan district, with security agencies scrutinizing his digital devices, online activity, and communication records. Authorities believe the suspect maintained regular communication with handlers in Pakistan and may have been part of an extensive network operating throughout West Bengal.

Another associate, Aditya Singh, from Howrah has been apprehended by the STF in a significant twist. This is noteworthy. It was alleged by investigators that Singh played a role in recruiting Hamim Mondal as he provided logistical support and helped with activities related to the allegedly module. He was taken into custody after being questioned alongside another individual in the case.

Security forces are currently examining digital evidence, financial transactions, and communication trails to determine whether the group had connections with other agents or planned operations in India.
