IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, October 6: BJP leader Debjit Sarkar on Tuesday expressed strong confidence that the party would secure convincing victories by a huge margin in the by-elections to the Rejinagar and Nandigram Assembly constituencies. Speaking about the ongoing by-elections, Sarkar claimed that voters were fully aware of whom they needed to support and said that the BJP was the only political force capable of determining Bengal's future.

"Voters know very well whom they have to vote for. There is no future for Bengal without the BJP. The aware voters of Bengal know exactly whom they should elect and by what margin. Therefore, the victory margin will be highly significant. The BJP will certainly win with a huge majority," Sarkar said.

His remarks came as polling continued in the two politically important constituencies of Rejinagar in Murshidabad and Nandigram in East Midnapore. Both seats have attracted considerable political attention, with the BJP seeking to strengthen its position in the state through the by-election contests.

Sarkar also launched a strong attack on the Opposition, claiming that the rival parties were politically directionless and had lost their support among the people. According to him, the Opposition was now limited to making statements about what should or should not happen without having any substantial public backing.

"The Opposition parties are now directionless and they have no support among the people. They keep making various statements about what should not happen and what should happen. There is no one left standing with the Opposition now and no voter is with them," Sarkar said.

He also took a swipe at one of the Opposition political groups, claiming that even one of them had lost its party symbol. The remark came amid an ongoing political dispute surrounding party recognition, symbols and electoral identity, adding another dimension to his attack on the Opposition.

Sarkar further targeted the political parties that had governed West Bengal in the past, arguing that the people of the state had already rejected both major periods of long-term rule after years of alleged misgovernance and exploitation.

"After exploiting West Bengal for so many years, the people of Bengal have completely rejected and punished both the 34-year rule and the 15-year rule," he said.

The BJP leader's comments reflect the party's confident political messaging during the by-election campaign, as it seeks to project itself as the principal alternative in West Bengal. His claim of a large-margin victory also underlines the BJP's expectation that the results from Rejinagar and Nandigram could have wider political implications for the state.

With voting underway, both constituencies remain under close observation. Security arrangements have been strengthened at polling stations and voters have been turning up since the morning. The final verdict, however, will be determined by the voters when the votes are counted and the results are declared.

For now, the BJP has sought to turn the by-elections into a larger political narrative about the future direction of West Bengal, while Opposition parties continue to challenge the ruling political establishment and each other. Sarkar's prediction of decisive victories in both constituencies has therefore added to the political temperature surrounding Tuesday's polling.
