IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Japan: The World Cup, Champions Trophy, Asia Cup or Asian Games, India have once again maintained their dominance over Pakistan in a major cricket final. In a thrilling Asian Games 2026 summit clash in Japan, India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs to win the gold medal in men’s cricket. Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s side produced a strong batting performance before a disciplined bowling effort restricted Pakistan to 192 for six in their chase of 212.

After winning the toss, India elected to bat first. Pakistan began with a disciplined opening over, with Saim Ayub conceding only four runs. However, the Indian innings quickly gathered momentum as Vaibhav Suryavanshi launched an attacking assault. He smashed two consecutive sixes off Shan Masood and immediately put pressure on the Pakistani bowling attack.

Abhishek Sharma soon joined the six-hitting contest and accelerated the scoring rate. However, Vaibhav’s aggressive innings came to an end in the following over. Attempting an unnecessary reverse sweep against Saim Ayub, he edged the delivery and the ball went straight into the wicketkeeper’s hands. Vaibhav was dismissed for 15.

As Vaibhav walked back to the pavilion, a Pakistani all-rounder appeared to make a gesture suggesting rocking a baby in his arms. The incident added an extra edge to an already intense final, but India responded emphatically with the bat.

Abhishek Sharma took charge of the Indian innings and produced one of the standout performances of the match. He smashed 61 runs from just 28 deliveries, striking three fours and seven sixes. His aggressive strokeplay put the Pakistani bowlers under tremendous pressure and ensured that India maintained a high scoring rate despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Sanju Samson failed to make a significant contribution, while captain Shreyas Iyer scored 21 from 24 balls. During that period, India’s scoring rate slowed somewhat and Pakistan managed to regain control of the game.

Ishan Kishan also could not produce a big score and was dismissed after making 20. However, India finished their innings strongly thanks to a late assault from Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube. Tilak produced a sensational unbeaten-style attacking contribution of 51 from 22 balls, while Dube added 27 from just 15 deliveries. Their late acceleration helped India finish with 211 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Pakistan needed 212 runs to win the final and started their chase positively. Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat attempted to maintain the required scoring rate while dealing with India’s bowling attack, including Jasprit Bumrah.

Hasan Nawaz then took responsibility for Pakistan’s chase and began scoring aggressively. India were also guilty of giving him opportunities, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi dropping a catch when Nawaz had scored only four runs. Another chance went down when Nawaz had reached 59.

Despite those missed opportunities, Pakistan struggled to find consistent support for Nawaz. Indian bowlers Axar Patel and Washington Sundar bowled with control and kept the Pakistani batters from maintaining the required run rate.

Nawaz eventually departed after scoring 96 runs, leaving Pakistan’s hopes of chasing down the target severely weakened. With wickets falling and the required run rate continuing to rise, Pakistan’s innings eventually ended at 192 for six.

India therefore completed a 19-run victory and secured the Asian Games gold medal in cricket. The triumph added another major gold to India’s campaign at the Games and, according to the supplied match account, marked the country’s 19th gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

Abhishek Sharma’s explosive half-century and Tilak Varma’s late assault laid the foundation for India’s imposing total, while the bowlers successfully defended it under pressure. After another high-profile victory over Pakistan, India walked away with the gold medal and another memorable chapter in their Asian Games cricket campaign.
