IIE Digital Desk: Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP and politician turned Instagram star, has been embroiled in controversy for sharing a series of Instagram Stories where she condemned young Hindu women who were being westernized. She referred to these women as "Generation Gutter" and their tone and generalized statements as the subject of much debate on social media.

In a series of Instagram posts, Ranaut shared her thoughts on what she perceives as cultural decline among certain young women. She accused many of being too influenced by Western culture, criticised their behaviour and appearance and called their academic commitment ‘ridiculous’. Her position was in contrast to traditional Indian values, where she believed that one shouldn't abandon a culture and pursue modernity.

Additionally, the BJP Member of Parliament hinted that social media had amplified tendencies she views as unfavorable, contending that certain online postings demonstrate an increasing gap between India's traditions and values. Following her criticism of the Gen Z protest reels that were linked to the NEET paper leak controversy, Ranaut made a series of remarks that provoked ire and debate among internet users. Both comments were met with mixed reactions. Despite some users supporting her criticism of social media culture and changing social values, others accused her unfairly discriminating against an entire group (four-year-old girls). These generalizations were criticized for potentially creating an environment where young people feel disconnected and the rhetoric that came with it perpetuates negative stereotypes rather than foster dialogue.
