IIE DIGITAL: amil Nadu's political landscape witnessed fresh turbulence on Tuesday after opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was taken into police custody over remarks made during a recent public gathering. The arrest follows allegations that the DMK leader made objectionable comments referring to actor Trisha, who is widely reported to be the partner of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.

According to reports, Chennai Police arrested Udhayanidhi from his residence a day after his speech at a protest over the Cauvery water-sharing dispute. During the address, he criticised the state government for its handling of the water issue. The controversy erupted when members of the audience chanted Trisha's name, prompting Udhayanidhi to make a remark that critics described as offensive and suggestive.

The comments quickly drew sharp criticism from Vijay's party, TVK, which lodged complaints with both the police and the National Commission for Women. Party leaders maintained that the action against Udhayanidhi was based on his alleged remarks targeting a woman and not driven by political rivalry.

An FIR was registered soon after the complaints, and the opposition leader was arrested within 24 hours.

Responding to the development, Udhayanidhi defended himself, insisting he had not made any inappropriate statement. He claimed he had not mentioned anyone other than Chief Minister Vijay during the speech and alleged that the case against him was politically motivated. Speaking before being taken away by police, he said he was confident that the courts would deliver justice.
