Will the five-time world champions be able to return to their familiar rhythm in America?

IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  May 29: Can the five-time world champions rediscover their rhythm on the green grass of America? Yes, that rhythm is known to the football world as “Joga Bonito.” Everyone knows the magic associated with Brazilian football. But over the last decade, that rhythm seems to have disappeared from the feet of the Brazilians. The Brazilian players no longer speak through their football in the same mesmerizing way. Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, millions of Brazilian supporters are eagerly waiting to witness the return of that lost rhythm. Can Neymar, Vinicius Junior, and the new generation revive the spirit of the old Brazil? The answer will become clearer in just a few weeks.

Ever since the humiliating 7-1 defeat against Germany on home soil in the 2014 World Cup, Brazil appears to have lost much of its footballing confidence. Since then, every World Cup campaign has ended in disappointment at the quarter-final stage. It has been a heartbreaking experience for millions of fans around the world. Yet, supporters have never forgotten the creators of football’s most beautiful style. Every World Cup brings new dreams surrounding Brazil, and this year is no different.

Brazilian football, the federation has handed the responsibility of rebuilding the team to legendary Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. In many ways, the experienced Ancelotti is now seen as Brazil’s final hope in this challenging situation.

Ancelotti is currently trying to build a fresh combination around experienced and talented players like Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, Endrick, Alisson, and Neymar. However, the biggest concern is that world-class stars like Vinicius and Alisson have been far more consistent for their clubs than for the national team. Meanwhile, Neymar has hardly played over the last two and a half years because of injuries and fitness struggles.

Brazil’s journey through the qualification stage was also far from smooth. Had the World Cup not expanded under the new format, Brazil might even have faced the danger of entering the playoffs much earlier. In Group C of the World Cup, the Seleção will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland.

The defensive line also looks more fragile than before. The same issue continues to haunt the squad — defenders like Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhães shine brilliantly for Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal respectively, but often fail to reproduce the same level on the international stage. Although Ancelotti is trying hard to polish and prepare the team, the deeper structural problems within Brazilian football still remain.

To put it simply, Brazil now stands before a difficult equation where nothing short of the trophy will satisfy expectations. Forgetting some of the old traditions, Brazil must adapt completely to the demands of modern football if they truly want to conquer the world again. Can the successors of Pelé and Ronaldo restore Brazil’s lost glory? In 1994, Brazil lifted the World Cup trophy in America. Can history repeat itself once again in 2026 on American soil? The answer lies hidden in the days of June and July 2026.

There is tremendous hope surrounding new coach Carlo Ancelotti and his ability to fulfill Brazil’s dream of winning another World Cup title. At the same time, there is also strong debate and deep skepticism regarding whether he can truly bring back the golden era.
