Young Leadership, Big Dreams: Riddhi Chauhan

IIE DIGITAL: At just 17, Riddhi Chauhan is already achieving what many aspire to accomplish over years. While most teenagers of her age are focused on school life and personal growth, Riddhi begins her mornings by leading nearly 300 US Navy cadets at her school’s training unit in New York.

A student of Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Queens, Riddhi has earned the prestigious position of Battalion Commanding Officer of the school’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) unit, becoming an example of discipline, dedication and young leadership.

A Journey from Self-Doubt to Leadership

Riddhi’s achievement is the result of consistent effort and determination. She joined the NJROTC programme as a freshman with the aim of improving her confidence and developing leadership abilities.

Over time, she took on several important responsibilities including Academic Commander, STEM Commander, Platoon Leader and Inspection Commander. Each role helped her gain experience and eventually led her to the highest student leadership position in the battalion.

Moving Closer to Her US Navy Dream

Riddhi’s remarkable performance has opened the door to her next step towards a military career. She has secured admission to the Naval Academy Preparatory School, bringing her closer to her goal of becoming a commissioned officer in the US Navy.

Her journey reflects her commitment to discipline, service and continuous learning.

A Routine Built on Dedication

As the Battalion Commanding Officer, Riddhi manages the daily activities of the unit while guiding and mentoring younger cadets.

Her schedule demands strong discipline. Several days a week, she reaches school before 7 am to supervise drill practices before regular classes begin, balancing leadership responsibilities with her academic commitments.

Excellence Beyond Military Training

Riddhi’s talents extend beyond the drill field. She has also made significant contributions in academics and technology.

During her time as Academic Commander, she helped her school team achieve success in a national academic competition. Her passion for science and innovation led her to guide the development of the battalion’s first SeaPerch underwater robotics project, encouraging cadets to explore robotics and engineering.

Roots in Rajasthan and Values of Service

Riddhi’s family roots trace back to Jaipur, Rajasthan. She credits her personal growth and leadership qualities to the values of humility, compassion and service that she learned through her association with Mahant Swami Maharaj and the BAPS Swaminarayan organisation.

These principles have helped her approach leadership with responsibility and empathy.

A Young Inspiration for Future Leaders

With her dream of joining the United States Naval Academy ahead, Riddhi Chauhan continues to break barriers at a young age. Her journey from a school student to a young commander showcases the power of determination, discipline and ambition, inspiring young people across the world to pursue their dreams.

Those planning a longer stay can find comfortable accommodation in Shaktigarh or Bardhaman town.

More than a place of worship, the Boro Balaram Temple is a remarkable reminder that India's spiritual traditions are wonderfully diverse. While Lord Jagannath remains the face of Rath Yatra for millions, this quiet village in Purba Bardhaman preserves a rare legacy where Lord Balabhadra stands at the centre of faith, offering visitors a unique chapter in Bengal's religious and cultural heritage.
