IIE DIGITAL DESK : The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its second list of candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, marking another major step in finalising its electoral lineup across the state. This announcement comes days after the party released its first list of 144 candidates on March 16.

The latest list, the BJP has named several prominent and new faces for key constituencies, intensifying the political battle in several crucial regions of West Bengal. Among the most notable announcements, Arjun Singh has been fielded from Noapara, while Kaustav Bagchi has been nominated for Barrackpore. Actor-turned-politician Hiran has been chosen as the party’s candidate for Shyampur, adding star power to the BJP’s campaign strategy.

Other significant nominations include Dibyendu Adhikari for Egra, Rupa Ganguly for Sonarpur South, Papia Adhikari for Tollygunge, and Sharbari Mukherjee for Jadavpur. In Matabhnaga, the party has fielded Nishith Pramanik, while Priyanka Tibrewal will contest from Entally. Ritesh Tiwari has been nominated from Kashipur-Belgachia, while Tapas Roy will contest from Maniktala.

Hingalganj, Rekha Patra has been fielded, while Dhruva Saha will contest from Rampurhat. Niladri Sekhar Dana has been named as the candidate for Bankura, while Shatruparna has been given the ticket from Ballygunge. Indranil Khan will contest from Behala West, and Sharadwat Mukherjee has been nominated for Bidhannagar.

Rajarhat-New Town, the BJP has fielded Piyush Kanoria, while Arijit Bakshi will contest from Dum Dum. Arup Choudhury has been nominated for Kamarhati, IPS officer Rajesh Kumar for Jagaddal, and Sudipta Das for Bijpur. Subrata Thakur has been fielded from Gaighata, Swapan Majumder from Bongaon South, and Ashok Kirtania from Bongaon North.

With this second list, the BJP has now announced candidates for a total of 294 constituencies, leaving only 39 seats yet to be declared. Notably, the party has still not announced its candidate for the Panihati constituency in North 24 Parganas, a seat that has drawn attention amid speculation that the mother of the RG Kar case victim could be considered for nomination.

The latest announcement signals the BJP’s intensified preparations and strategic positioning as the West Bengal electoral contest moves closer, with high-profile candidates and fresh faces shaping the party’s bid to challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress.
