IIE DIGITAL DESK : The unique fusion of tradition and innovation, a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata has been designed to replicate the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha, West Bengal. This initiative aims to bring the coastal temple's spiritual ambiance to the heart of the city, allowing devotees to experience its grandeur without traveling to Digha .

Located in the 14th ward of Kolkata, near Ultadanga's Kabiraj Bagan, the pandal spans 150 feet in length, 40 feet in width, and stands 60 feet tall. The main Durga idol, crafted in the traditional ekchala style, reaches a height of 50 feet. The pandal's design mirrors the architectural elements of the Digha Jagannath Temple, featuring intricate carvings and structures reminiscent of the original shrine. Visitors will pass through three segments before reaching the central idol: the Shiva idol at the entrance, followed by the Jagannath and Narayan idols.

The project is spearheaded by Amol Chakraborty, the local councillor, who was inspired during the inauguration of the Digha temple. Chakraborty envisioned bringing the temple's essence to Kolkata, especially for those unable to visit Digha. He expressed hopes that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would inaugurate the pandal, emphasizing its significance as a cultural and spiritual bridge between the two regions.

The construction is underway, with artisans from Bongaon dedicating four months to its realization. Lighting arrangements are being handled by artists from Chandannagar, ensuring a vibrant and authentic atmosphere. The estimated budget for the project is ₹50 lakh, reflecting the scale and ambition of the endeavor.

This thematic pandal not only showcases the rich cultural tapestry of West Bengal but also highlights the state's commitment to preserving and promoting its religious heritage. As Durga Puja approaches, this pandal is expected to attract numerous visitors, eager to witness the fusion of Kolkata's festive spirit with the sanctity of Digha's Jagannath Temple.

For those in Kolkata during the festive season, this pandal offers a unique opportunity to experience the divine presence of Lord Jagannath amidst the city's vibrant Durga Puja celebrations.
