IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Town, October 3: West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Dilip Ghosh hit back at the Opposition over its continuing attacks on the upcoming elections and the Election Commission. Speaking to reporters in New Town on Saturday morning, Ghosh claimed that the Opposition had no substantive political issue and was attacking constitutional institutions because it knew it would face defeat in the elections, while trying to attract media attention.
Criticising the Opposition over its targeting of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Ghosh said, "The elections will be held, the results will be announced and they will lose as well. All they will do is stand outside and keep shouting. Gyanesh Kumar holds a constitutional post and nobody has the courage to remove him. Instead of making so many statements, they should go to the people and prepare for the elections. Otherwise, they will once again face the same result as in the previous election."
Taking a sharp swipe at the Opposition INDIA bloc, he further said, "Elections are coming up in several states and just before that, this INDIA bloc somehow emerges. There are municipal elections in Bengal, so they need an issue. But they have no real political issue anywhere, whether in the country or in Bengal. They are simply making baseless and meaningless comments to remain in the media spotlight. There is nothing beyond that."
