IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata | June 24, 2026 : The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections have long concluded, the political controversies and legal battles arising from the high-voltage campaign continue to reverberate across the state's political landscape. In a significant development, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee has found himself facing a fresh legal challenge as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) prepares to conduct a voice sample examination in connection with a case related to alleged provocative remarks made during the election campaign.

The move comes after a court approved an application submitted by the state investigating agency seeking permission to collect and analyze Banerjee’s voice sample. According to the court's directive, the senior Trinamool leader has been instructed to appear in person on June 30 and provide the required voice sample as part of the ongoing investigation.

The case traces its origins to the intensely contested 2026 Assembly election campaign, during which political rhetoric across the state frequently became the subject of controversy. Investigators are examining allegations that Abhishek Banerjee made a series of provocative remarks while campaigning in different districts of West Bengal and addressing election rallies attended by thousands of supporters.

The statements that generated the greatest controversy was a comment made during one of his campaign speeches in which he reportedly declared that “DJ music would be played after the election results on May 4.” The remark quickly became a major political flashpoint and sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties.

Leaders and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that the statement carried an implied threat and was intended as a warning to political opponents. According to critics, the comment suggested the possibility of post-election political violence against BJP workers if the Trinamool Congress secured a favorable result. The ruling party, however, has consistently rejected such interpretations.

The controversy, multiple complaints were reportedly filed at police stations across the state. Given the sensitivity and political significance of the matter, the investigation was subsequently taken up by the state police and later handled by the CID, which began collecting evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged statement.

The investigation, Abhishek Banerjee was earlier summoned to the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan, where he reportedly underwent extensive questioning by investigators. Officials sought clarification regarding the remarks, the context in which they were made, and the authenticity of various audio and video recordings that surfaced during and after the election campaign.

The questioning, investigators concluded that further forensic verification was necessary. According to CID officials, it is legally important to establish whether the voice heard in the circulated audio and video clips is indeed that of Abhishek Banerjee. Such verification would be crucial if the recordings are to be used as evidence during any future legal proceedings.

To achieve that objective, the investigating agency approached the court seeking permission to obtain the Trinamool leader’s voice sample. After hearing arguments from all parties involved, the court granted the request and directed Banerjee to cooperate with the examination process.

Investigators are expected to compare the collected voice sample with recordings obtained from election campaign speeches and other digital evidence. Forensic experts will then analyze whether the voice in the disputed clips matches the sample provided by the accused leader.

Political observers note that this is one of the most significant legal developments involving Abhishek Banerjee since the dramatic changes in West Bengal's political landscape following the 2026 Assembly elections. As the second-most influential figure in the Trinamool Congress after party supremo Mamata Banerjee, any legal action involving him is likely to attract intense public and political attention.

The upcoming June 30 appearance is therefore expected to become a major political event, with both supporters and opponents closely monitoring the proceedings. The outcome of the voice sample examination could influence the direction of the investigation and potentially shape the next phase of legal action in the case.

The date approaches, speculation and debate continue to intensify within political circles. Whether the forensic examination strengthens the allegations or provides clarity in favor of the Trinamool leader remains to be seen. For now, all eyes are fixed on June 30, when a key stage in this politically sensitive investigation is set to unfold.
