IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Jammu | July 30 : The 23rd batch of pilgrims undertaking the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra departed for the Baltal base camp in the early hours of Thursday under extensive security arrangements, as authorities continue to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of one of India's most significant religious pilgrimages.

The convoy carrying the latest batch of pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu at 2:44 a.m. The convoy comprised 83 vehicles, including 41 buses, 11 medium-sized vehicles, 30 light motor vehicles, and one two-wheeler, all escorted under a comprehensive security cover.

Officials stated that the latest batch consists of 1,795 pilgrims, including 1,406 men and 389 women, who began their journey towards the Baltal base camp before proceeding to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine in the Kashmir Himalayas.

The annual pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath Cave continues to progress smoothly with thousands of devotees arriving from across the country to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Authorities have implemented elaborate security and logistical arrangements to facilitate the movement of pilgrims while ensuring their safety throughout the journey.

With the departure of the 23rd batch, the total number of pilgrims who have left the Jammu base camp for the holy cave shrine during this year's Amarnath Yatra has reached 134,201, reflecting the massive participation in the annual pilgrimage despite challenging terrain and weather conditions.

Administrative officials said that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and hassle-free journey for the devotees. Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers along the pilgrimage route, while surveillance has been intensified at key transit points to maintain law and order.

Special traffic management measures have also been put in place on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and the Baltal route, ensuring the uninterrupted movement of pilgrimage convoys while regulating civilian traffic. Authorities are continuously monitoring road conditions and weather updates to avoid any disruptions during the yatra.

Medical teams, emergency response units, and disaster management personnel remain stationed along the route to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies. Pilgrims have also been advised to follow official guidelines and travel only with authorized convoys for their safety.

The Shri Amarnath Yatra remains one of India's most revered annual religious pilgrimages, drawing lakhs of devotees every year to the naturally formed ice Shivling inside the sacred cave shrine. With comprehensive security arrangements and coordinated efforts by the administration, the pilgrimage continues peacefully as successive batches of devotees make their way towards the holy destination.
