IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, June 11: The Trinamool Congress have intensified further as Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the Upper House, adding to a series of recent departures that have fueled political speculation. Prakash Chik Baraik formally submitted his resignation from the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. His resignation letter was addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan. The development has attracted significant attention in political circles, particularly as it comes amid ongoing discussions regarding internal developments within the Trinamool Congress.

Political observers are closely monitoring the situation to understand the broader implications of multiple resignations from the party's parliamentary ranks within a short span of time.

Prakash Chik Baraik expressed gratitude to the leadership and administrative officials of the Rajya Sabha. He wrote that he was resigning from his membership of the Rajya Sabha and hoped that the resignation would take effect immediately. He also extended his sincere appreciation to the Chairman, the Vice-Chairman, and all officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for the assistance and cooperation provided to him during his tenure as a member of the Upper House.

The resignation marks a significant moment in Baraik’s political journey. He was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal in August 2023 as a nominee of the Trinamool Congress. His entry into the national legislature was viewed as recognition of his long-standing political and organizational work in North Bengal.

Baraik built his reputation as a prominent leader of tea garden workers in North Bengal. Over the years, he became closely associated with issues affecting tea plantation labourers and was regarded as an influential voice among workers in the region. His grassroots engagement helped him establish a strong political presence across several parts of North Bengal.

Graduate in Commerce from Surya Sen College under the University of North Bengal, Baraik gradually emerged as one of the important Trinamool Congress leaders in the Alipurduar region. Through his organizational efforts and involvement in regional politics, he secured a significant position within the party structure and eventually earned a place in Parliament.

The resignation has inevitably sparked fresh political debate regarding the future course of the Trinamool Congress and the reasons behind the recent exits from the Rajya Sabha. While no detailed explanation has yet been publicly provided regarding his decision to resign, political observers are expected to closely watch the coming days for further developments and possible statements from both Baraik and the party leadership.

Discussions continue in political circles, the latest resignation has added another layer of intrigue to West Bengal’s evolving political landscape, with attention now focused on whether additional changes may follow within the party's parliamentary and organizational ranks.
