IIE Digital Desk: The Delhi Police has written to X social media platform, previously known as Twitter, inquiring about the content shared on the account that purportedly contained abusive and derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other constitutional figures. A recent protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is currently under investigation, prompting the move.

Authorities say police have lodged an FIR and asked X to provide details as they aim to determine who runs the account. The notice purports to request subscriber information, log-in and logout details, IP addresses, and any other types of relevant data for the purpose of investigating.

It was reported by the Delhi Police that the social media posts contained insults, vulgarities, and slurs against the Prime Minister and other constitutional officials. According to investigators, the content may contravene provisions of the Bharatiya Nyayaste Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws governing online communication.

This development comes amid nationwide protests over claims of examination paper leaks, particularly the NEET-UG controversy.. The CJP's organized protests have garnered significant public interest, with clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement taking place at certain events. Separate investigations are being conducted by authorities into events linked to the protests. This notice is part of an effort to identify the person responsible for those postings and determine if any criminal activity has taken place.

Online speech: The request to X is the latest example of how social media has become increasingly important for law enforcement investigations. Upon receiving the requested information from this platform, investigators are anticipated to determine the next legal action upon reviewing and commenting on the evidence.
