IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, May 9: Political tensions appear to be rising within the opposition INDIA alliance following strong remarks by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who asserted that only the Indian National Congress has the capability to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party Bharatiya Janata Party in future elections.

Speaking at a public event in Haryana, Rahul Gandhi said that the current political battle in India is fundamentally ideological, describing it as a contest between what he termed the BJP-RSS ideology of “hate and division” and the Congress ideology of “love and unity.” He further alleged irregularities in elections and claimed that institutional mechanisms such as the Election Commission were being misused, leading to voter list manipulation and “vote theft” in several states.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged that similar issues had occurred in states including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, and claimed that future concerns could arise in states like West Bengal and Assam. He stated that the ruling BJP controls multiple institutions and asserted that Congress workers alone possess the strength to challenge the ruling party effectively.

Rahul Gandhi said that no other political party would be able to defeat the BJP except the Congress, adding that his party would eventually overcome the ruling party at the national level in the near future. He urged party workers to remain confident and continue strengthening the organisation.

The INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties formed to challenge the BJP nationally. Several alliance partners have expressed concern over the perceived unilateral tone of his statement, questioning whether such comments undermine coalition unity.

Reports suggest that tensions have already surfaced between Congress and regional allies such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which has previously voiced dissatisfaction with certain Congress positions. Some alliance members are now reportedly questioning the future direction of the coalition and whether trust among partners is being eroded.

The remarks have added fresh uncertainty to the INDIA alliance’s internal dynamics, raising questions about coordination, leadership roles, and the long-term stability of the opposition bloc ahead of future elections.
