IIE Digital Desk : Security forces eliminated three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists during an encounter in the Keller area of Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, underscores the ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the region.

According to officials, a joint team comprising the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in the Shukroo Keller area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. As the forces approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce gunbattle. In the ensuing exchange, three LeT operatives were neutralized. The identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed. 

The encounter site was thoroughly searched, and security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including assault rifles and other warlike stores. This seizure is indicative of the militants' preparedness and the potential threat they posed to the region's peace and stability.

This operation comes in the wake of heightened security measures following recent terror incidents in the Union Territory. Notably, the Indian government's firm stance against terrorism was evident in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, where 26 civilians lost their lives. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control, resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists and significant damage to terror camps. 

The successful neutralization of the three LeT terrorists in Shopian is seen as a continuation of India's proactive approach to counter-terrorism. Security forces remain vigilant, with ongoing operations to ensure the safety and security of the region's residents.

Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that the cooperation of local communities is crucial in the fight against terrorism. The situation in the area is being closely monitored, and additional security measures have been implemented to prevent any retaliatory actions by terrorist groups.
