IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, May 8 :The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, early projections from betting markets and analytical platforms have placed Spain and France at the top of the list of title favourites.

The latest probability-based assessments, both Spain and France are currently considered joint frontrunners, each carrying a 16.7% chance of lifting the trophy. Spain’s strong form following their recent European Championship success has boosted confidence among analysts, while France remains a dominant force under the leadership of Kylian Mbappé, having finished as runners-up in the previous World Cup.

England has been placed third in the rankings with a 13.3% probability of winning the tournament. The team’s consistent performances in recent major international competitions have strengthened their reputation as serious contenders heading into the global event.

Traditional powerhouses Brazil and defending champions Argentina also remain firmly in the title conversation. Brazil has been assigned an 11.1% chance of winning, with expectations high under the leadership of new coach Carlo Ancelotti. Argentina, meanwhile, has been given a 10.5% probability of defending their crown, relying heavily on several key members of their 2022 World Cup-winning squad.

Beyond the top five, Portugal, Germany, and the Netherlands are also considered strong challengers. Portugal’s chances are estimated at 8.3%, Germany at 6.7%, and the Netherlands at 4.8%, reflecting their competitive squads and tournament experience.

With these early projections already generating widespread debate among fans and experts, the stage is set for an intense buildup to the 2026 World Cup. However, analysts also caution that football’s biggest tournament is known for unpredictability, where rankings and probabilities often give way to surprise performances on the pitch.
