IIE DIGITAL: While the United States is caught up in the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, cricket has created its own moment of celebration on American soil. Shah Rukh Khan’s Los Angeles Knight Riders scripted history by becoming the champions of Major League Cricket (MLC) for the first time after defeating Washington in a thrilling final.

The victory brought immense joy for the Knight Riders’ owner Shah Rukh Khan, who could not hide his emotions after the team’s remarkable achievement. Taking to social media, the Bollywood superstar praised the efforts of key players including Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Jason Holder along with the entire squad for their incredible performance.

Founded in 2023, Los Angeles Knight Riders had been searching for their first major success. After two challenging seasons, the franchise finally lifted its maiden MLC trophy and added another chapter to the Knight Riders’ growing global legacy.

With this triumph, Knight Riders franchises across different leagues have now collected their 10th championship title. Their trophy cabinet includes three IPL titles, five Caribbean Premier League trophies and one Women’s Caribbean Premier League championship along with the latest MLC crown.

One Run Victory in a Nail-Biting Final

Batting first, Los Angeles Knight Riders posted 164 runs in the final. Although experienced campaigners Andre Russell and Sunil Narine could not contribute significantly with the bat, Andre Fletcher played a crucial role by scoring the highest 47 runs for the team.

Washington responded strongly in the chase and came within touching distance of victory. However, they finished with 163 runs, losing the contest by just one run. Obus Pienaar was their standout batter with a fighting knock of 53 runs.

The final over turned into a dramatic battle as Washington required 14 runs to win. But Shadley van Schalkwyk showed remarkable composure under pressure and defended the target successfully to hand LA Knight Riders a memorable championship victory.

The bowling attack played a decisive role in the final, with Sunil Narine and Jason Holder taking three wickets each to restrict Washington and secure the title.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Proud Reaction

After the historic win, Shah Rukh Khan shared an emotional message celebrating the team’s achievement. He congratulated Narine, Holder, Russell and every member of the squad for their dedication and fighting spirit.

Highlighting the team’s winning mindset, Shah Rukh said the players had proved that they were not in America just to participate but to compete for the title.

The MLC triumph marks a major milestone for Los Angeles Knight Riders and strengthens the Knight Riders brand as one of the most successful cricket franchises across the globe.
