Kolkata, October 14: India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, marking a new chapter in his association with the franchise. The appointment was announced on Tuesday night and will see the former World Cup-winning cricketer take up his first formal coaching role after years of mentoring and advising young players.

Yuvraj, one of the most celebrated all-rounders in Indian cricket, enjoyed an illustrious international career representing India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Test matches and 58 T20 Internationals. He played a crucial role in several of India's memorable victories and was an important member of the teams that won the 2007 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. His experience of performing under pressure in major international tournaments is expected to bring valuable insight to the Delhi Capitals dressing room.

Although Yuvraj has frequently guided and mentored young cricketers over the years, the Delhi Capitals appointment will be his first official coaching assignment in a professional franchise setup. His transition from an accomplished international player to a member of the coaching staff is expected to add a fresh dimension to the team's preparation, particularly in the batting department.

Known for his aggressive batting, powerful stroke play and ability to change the course of a match, Yuvraj built a reputation as one of India's most influential limited-overs cricketers. His experience across different formats and his understanding of high-pressure situations could prove particularly beneficial for Delhi Capitals' batters as they prepare for the challenges of the IPL.

The appointment also marks Yuvraj's return to the Delhi franchise. He represented Delhi Capitals, then known as Delhi Daredevils, during the 2015 IPL season. Nearly 12 years after that association, he will return to the franchise in a completely different capacity, this time contributing to the team's strategy, batting preparation and player development from the dugout.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the former India star to the franchise and expressed confidence in the value he would bring to the team. In a statement, Jindal said, “We are extremely delighted to welcome Yuvraj to the Delhi Capitals family. His experience, winning mentality and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our team.”

Jindal's comments underline the franchise's expectations from Yuvraj as Delhi Capitals look to strengthen their coaching setup ahead of the 2027 season. Beyond technical guidance, his appointment is also expected to bring the benefit of his extensive experience in international cricket, where he played alongside and against some of the world's leading players.

Yuvraj's ability to connect with younger cricketers could be one of his biggest strengths in the new role. Having experienced the demands of international cricket, major tournaments and franchise competitions, he can offer players practical advice on handling pressure, building confidence and maintaining consistency throughout a long tournament.

His role as assistant and batting coach will place particular emphasis on helping the team's batters improve their approach, shot selection and decision-making. In a competition such as the IPL, where matches can turn within a few overs, the ability to adapt quickly to different conditions and situations is crucial. Yuvraj's experience as an aggressive middle-order batter could provide valuable guidance in these areas.

Delhi Capitals, the appointment represents an important addition to the coaching structure as the franchise prepares for another IPL campaign. The team will hope that Yuvraj's winning mentality, cricketing knowledge and experience of championship-winning campaigns can help its players perform consistently and compete strongly in the tournament.

Yuvraj's move into formal coaching also marks a significant development in his post-playing career. Having already influenced several young cricketers through informal mentoring, he now has the opportunity to apply his knowledge in an official team environment. His appointment has added interest to Delhi Capitals' preparations for IPL 2027, with fans likely to watch closely how the former India star adapts to his new responsibilities.
