The historic number 10 jersey, worn by the late Brazilian superstar, will be placed in an online auction running from June 29 to July 16, according to reports. Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectibles, Brahm Wachter, confirmed the development in a statement.
This jersey holds immense historical significance as it was worn by Pele during his first World Cup final appearance. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, was just 17 years old when he played in the 1958 final at the Rasunda Stadium in Stockholm. In that match, he scored twice, helping Brazil secure a commanding 5–2 victory over Sweden.
Pele’s performance in that final remains one of the most iconic moments in football history, as he became the youngest player ever to score in a World Cup final, a record that still stands today.
The upcoming auction is expected to attract major interest from sports memorabilia collectors, given the jersey’s association with one of the greatest footballers of all time and a defining moment in World Cup history.
