IIE DIGITAL DESK ; July 18 : The champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive a special Championship Ring for the first time in the tournament's history, adding a new symbol of sporting excellence alongside the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy and gold medals.

The historic initiative will debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, which is scheduled to be played on July 20 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Defending champions Argentina will take on European powerhouse Spain in the title-deciding clash, with the winners set to receive not only football's most prestigious trophy but also the newly introduced championship rings.

The addition of championship rings marks a significant change in FIFA's post-match honours. Inspired by traditions followed in several major international sports leagues, the rings are intended to serve as a permanent and personalised reminder of the players' achievement in becoming world champions.

To commemorate the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a total of 2,026 championship rings will be produced. Of these, 30 rings have been reserved exclusively for members of the World Cup-winning team, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available for purchase by football fans across the world as commemorative collectibles celebrating the tournament.

Each championship ring has been designed with unique features reflecting the prestige of the FIFA World Cup. One side of the ring will display an engraving of the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy, while the opposite side will feature details identifying the champion team along with commemorative elements highlighting their achievement.

The rings prepared for members of the winning team will be individually numbered, making every piece unique. In addition, each ring will be custom-made according to the finger size of the respective recipient to ensure a personalised fit. Every official championship ring will also be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity verifying its originality.

The World Cup final's prize distribution ceremony, FIFA will present symbolic or temporary championship rings to the winning team's captain and head coach as part of the on-field celebrations. The customised official rings for all 30 members of the champion squad will then be manufactured according to individual measurements before being formally distributed at a later stage.

The introduction of championship rings represents a new chapter in the history of the FIFA World Cup, adding another prestigious honour to the rewards received by the tournament winners. Alongside lifting the famous World Cup trophy and receiving gold medals, the victorious players and coaching staff will now possess a personalised keepsake commemorating one of the greatest achievements in international football.
