The family, who had allegedly fled their home following political violence after the 2021 Assembly elections, broke down in tears as they stepped back onto their ancestral property on Monday.
Kalachand Das claimed that after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, he and his family became targets of political violence. He alleged that miscreants backed by the ruling party at the time attacked them. According to Das, their shop located near Harishchandrapur Hospital More was vandalized and looted. He further alleged that he was dragged onto the street and physically assaulted during the unrest.
Fearing for their lives, Das said he and his family were forced to leave the area and live in hiding outside the district. During this prolonged period away from home, the family reportedly faced severe financial hardship. Family members stated that they struggled to meet daily needs and often did not have sufficient food.
Despite being displaced, Das claimed that during the recent Assembly elections, he secretly returned to the area to cast his vote in support of the BJP. Following the formation of a BJP government in the state, he said the family finally gathered the courage to return home.
Das expressed hope that the new administration would ensure their safety and help them resume a normal life. He appealed for protection and stability so that his family can rebuild their livelihood without fear. The return of the family has drawn attention in the area, with supporters describing it as a significant and emotional moment.
