Gautam Deb, Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, stated that the removal of the logo was initially planned in view of upcoming four-lane road construction work, which would have required its relocation at a later stage. However, he added that the decision was expedited following direct instructions from the state government.
Municipal Corporation MIC member Shobha Subba also confirmed that the removal of the ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo was carried out in accordance with the state government’s directive.
The decision comes amid a broader administrative shift in the state, where changes in political leadership have reportedly led to alterations in public symbols and signage. Following the change in governance, there have been reports of the ‘Biswa Bangla’ branding being replaced in several locations with the Ashoka emblem as a state symbol.
Officials have stated that the removal process was carried out smoothly under administrative supervision, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic and local movement in the area.
