IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Siliguri | August 3, 2026: The remarkable humanitarian initiative was witnessed in Siliguri as local traders and citizens came together to raise funds for people affected by the devastating floods and natural calamities in Assam. The Siliguri Hawkers Corner Business Association and Mahabirsthan Business Association jointly organized a relief fund collection drive to extend support to flood victims struggling with the impact of the disaster.

The special campaign was organized at the market area on Monday, where a large number of businessmen, shopkeepers and local residents participated. The initiative received significant public response as people came forward to contribute towards helping those affected by the severe flood situation in the neighbouring state of Assam.

Siliguri MLA and West Bengal Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh was also present during the programme. As part of the campaign, he personally visited different sections of the market and collected donations from traders and ordinary citizens. His involvement encouraged more people to participate in the relief effort and contribute towards the welfare of flood-affected families.

The event, Shankar Ghosh appealed to people from all sections of society to come forward and support the humanitarian initiative. He highlighted that Assam is currently facing a serious crisis due to the devastating floods and natural disasters, and at such a difficult time, collective efforts and unity are necessary to provide assistance to those in need.

The minister said that neighbouring states share a strong bond and that helping people during times of disaster is a social responsibility. He urged citizens to contribute according to their ability so that timely support can reach families who have lost homes, belongings and sources of livelihood due to the floods.

Shankar Ghosh further informed that the funds collected through the initiative would be deposited into the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The collected amount will be used to support relief operations and provide assistance to people affected by the flood situation.

The participation of business associations in the relief drive has been appreciated as an example of community involvement and social responsibility. Traders and residents of Siliguri expressed their willingness to continue supporting humanitarian causes and helping people affected by natural disasters.
