Tuesday Rain Alert Across Several Districts of Both Bengals
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; August 4: Several districts across West Bengal are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, with the weather department forecasting spells of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in many parts of the state.
In South Bengal, almost all districts are expected to experience thunderstorms and rainfall on Tuesday. The weather is likely to remain unsettled, with lightning activity and strong, gusty winds adding to the intensity of the showers. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in open and exposed areas.
The weather is expected to intensify in several districts over the next few days. On Wednesday, East Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad may receive heavy rainfall. The possibility of heavy rain has also been forecast for Nadia, West Burdwan and North 24 Parganas on Thursday.
Rainfall activity is expected to shift to several other parts of South Bengal on Friday. South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura are likely to receive comparatively heavier showers. The changing weather pattern may bring temporary relief from heat and humidity, although thunderstorms and strong winds could cause localised disruption.
Meanwhile, the sea is expected to remain relatively calm for the time being. No separate warning has been issued for fishermen, indicating that marine conditions are not expected to pose any major threat at present.
North Bengal, however, is likely to experience more intense rainfall over the coming days. Weather alerts have been issued for several districts as a spell of heavy to extremely heavy rain is expected in the northern part of the state.
On Tuesday, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall in some areas. The weather department has issued warnings in view of the possibility of intense downpours. Kalimpong and Cooch Behar may also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during the day.
The rainfall situation is expected to continue into Wednesday. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain, with authorities keeping a close watch on the developing weather conditions.
The prolonged spell of rain in the Himalayan districts could also affect road connectivity and normal life in vulnerable areas, particularly where waterlogging, landslides or swollen streams are possible. People travelling through hilly and rain-prone areas are therefore advised to remain alert and monitor local weather updates.
The contrasting rainfall pattern between North and South Bengal highlights the influence of the prevailing monsoon system over the state. While North Bengal is expected to face more intense rainfall during the next couple of days, several districts in South Bengal will also experience widespread thunderstorms and rain.
With rainfall activity forecast across a large part of West Bengal, residents are likely to experience a generally cloudy and unsettled weather pattern through the week. Authorities and local administrations are expected to keep a close watch on areas vulnerable to waterlogging, lightning and strong winds as the monsoon remains active across the state.
