IIE DIGITAL DESK : Haldia, April 21: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a fierce political attack on opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari during an election rally in Haldia, accusing him and his political allies of betrayal and corruption while intensifying the ongoing electoral battle in the state.

Haldia, Mamata Banerjee, without directly naming Suvendu Adhikari, strongly criticized him and referred to him as a “traitor” in a clear political jibe. She alleged that she is fully aware of how funds from Haldia are being diverted, stating that she knows exactly where the money from the region goes, hinting at large-scale financial irregularities.

Expanding her attack, the Chief Minister also targeted the entire Adhikari family, stating that she had supported them extensively in the past but would no longer do so. Her remarks reflected deep political estrangement from Suvendu Adhikari, who was once a close aide before joining the opposition camp.

Mamata Banerjee further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders of engaging in what she described as betrayal, authoritarian behaviour and oppressive politics. While not naming individuals directly in all instances, her speech was widely interpreted as a strong rebuke of both Suvendu Adhikari and the BJP leadership in the state.

The rally in Haldia forms part of the Trinamool Congress’s intensified campaign ahead of upcoming electoral battles in West Bengal, where political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition have escalated sharply. The Chief Minister’s remarks are expected to further heighten the already charged political atmosphere in the region.

Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent opposition figure and senior leader of the BJP in West Bengal, has frequently been at the centre of political confrontations with the ruling party. His departure from the Trinamool Congress and subsequent alignment with the BJP marked a major turning point in the state’s political landscape.

Mamata Banerjee’s latest comments underscore the deepening rivalry between the two sides, with both parties increasingly engaging in personal and political attacks as election campaigning intensifies across the state.
