The municipal chairman was taken into custody from his residence late on Friday night after police allegedly recovered a large quantity of relief materials from a club located near his housing complex. The incident has created considerable political and public attention in the area.
The relief materials, which were meant to be distributed among needy and deserving members of the public, had instead been stored inside the club premises. Police reportedly recovered numerous relief items from the club and launched an investigation into why the materials had not been distributed. The discovery led to accusations that the supplies had been improperly stockpiled rather than being handed over to beneficiaries.
The club at the center of the controversy is the Baralhat Sporting Club in Nabadwip. Acting on information received, police conducted a raid at the club on Friday night. During the operation, authorities allegedly found relief materials stored across ten separate rooms inside the club building. News of the recovery quickly spread throughout the locality, leading to growing anger and tension among residents.
The situation escalated, police moved to question the municipal chairman. At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, a large police team from Nabadwip Police Station arrived outside Biman Krishna Saha’s residence. The area around the house was secured, and members of a central security force accompanied the police during the operation. Officers then brought the chairman out of his residence and escorted him into a police vehicle for further questioning.
The police action prompted immediate protests from local residents. A large number of people gathered in the area and expressed their dissatisfaction and anger over the allegations surrounding the relief materials. The atmosphere became tense as residents raised slogans and demanded explanations regarding the stockpiling of supplies that were allegedly intended for public welfare.
The allegations, Biman Krishna Saha has firmly denied any wrongdoing. He rejected all accusations made against him and maintained that he had no involvement in the alleged irregularities concerning the relief materials.
