IIE DIGITAL DESK : First visit to North Bengal after becoming Chief Minister, Shubhendu Adhikari visited Siliguri and made a strong political statement, saying that “it is now time to repay the debt” to the region. He arrived at Bagdogra Airport and addressed journalists on Wednesday, outlining his government’s priorities for North Bengal.

He stated that North Bengal has consistently supported the Bharatiya Janata Party since 2009, and assured that all electoral promises made by the party would be fulfilled after coming to power. He emphasized that the region would receive special focus in governance and development planning.

Shubhendu Adhikari announced that the state cabinet would now visit North Bengal every month to review administrative work and accelerate development projects. He also highlighted plans to strengthen direct public engagement, stating that ministers from North Bengal would conduct weekly “Janata Darshan” sessions to interact with citizens, address grievances, and monitor ongoing government schemes.

He further added that coordination with the administration would be strengthened to ensure timely execution of development initiatives across the region. Regular review meetings would be held to track progress and ensure implementation of all projects.

Reiterating key election promises, he said that the government would work towards establishing major institutions in North Bengal, including an AIIMS, an IIT, and a cancer hospital. According to him, these projects would significantly improve healthcare, education, and infrastructure in the region.

He also extended greetings to the people of North Bengal and reaffirmed his commitment to regional development. The visit is being seen as part of a broader political and administrative outreach strategy aimed at strengthening governance and fulfilling long-standing demands of the region.
