IIE DIGITAL DESK;  June 9:  South Indian cinema and Bollywood films continues to unfold at the box office, with Ram Charan’s latest release ‘Peddi’ emerging as a clear frontrunner. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is also performing steadily, while Bobby Deol’s ‘Bandar’ appears to be struggling to attract audiences in the highly competitive market.

Trade reports released on Tuesday indicate that ‘Peddi’ maintained its strong momentum on its fifth day at the box office. On Monday, the film collected ₹12.05 crore, of which ₹10.40 crore came from the Telugu version alone. The Hindi version contributed ₹1.40 crore, while the Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions added ₹15 lakh, ₹7 lakh, and ₹3 lakh respectively.

With this performance, the film’s total domestic collection over five days has reached ₹169.70 crore. On the global stage, ‘Peddi’ has already crossed an impressive ₹248.92 crore mark, reinforcing its status as one of the most successful recent releases in the Indian film industry.

‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, witnessed a noticeable dip in its box office earnings on Monday, its fourth day of release. The film collected ₹3.50 crore on Monday, significantly lower than its Sunday earnings of ₹9 crore. Despite the drop, the film’s total box office collection has reached ₹27.5 crore so far.

The other hand, Bobby Deol’s ‘Bandar’ has been unable to generate strong audience traction. On its fourth day, the film earned only around ₹30 lakh, indicating a weak performance at the box office. Its total collection currently stands at ₹2.75 crore, making it the lowest-performing among the three releases discussed.

The ongoing box office clash highlights the growing dominance of South Indian cinema in the pan-Indian market, while also reflecting the uneven performance of Bollywood releases. Industry observers note that strong regional appeal, multilingual releases, and large-scale production values are giving films like ‘Peddi’ a significant edge over their competitors.

The competition continues, trade analysts are closely watching whether Bollywood films can recover momentum or whether South cinema will further strengthen its hold on nationwide audiences in the coming weeks.
