The awards ceremony, held on Sunday in Mumbai and hosted by stars including Alia Bhatt, Farah Khan, Sunil Grover, Zakir Khan and journalist Saurabh Dwivedi, brought a mix of entertainment, emotion, and unexpected comedy to the stage.

In one standout moment, the conversation turned to global economic issues when Rajpal Yadav asked about the rupee‑dollar fluctuation. In response, Saurabh joked, “Rajpal bhai, no matter how the dollar‑rupee changes, you will have to return every penny you owe,” a comment that had both the audience and Yadav himself laughing heartily. Even Devendra Fadnavis, who was present at the event, was seen enjoying the punchline. Rajpal, breaking into laughter, quipped back, “Listen to my issue once!” adding to the festive atmosphere.

The humorous exchange came against the backdrop of Rajpal Yadav’s ongoing legal situation. The actor had surrendered earlier this year in a cheque bounce case tied to a loan he had taken for his directorial debut, which escalated into a substantial liability over time. Rajpal later secured interim bail, allowing him to attend events like the Chetak Screen Awards. 

Besides the laughs, the Chetak Screen Awards 2026 also celebrated cinematic excellence across Hindi cinema and OTT platforms, with top honours and numerous industry veterans in attendance. The awards are recognised for their merit‑based selection process conducted by an independent body of respected filmmakers and artists, adding credibility to the honours distributed on this star‑studded night.
