IIE DIGITAL DESK :  A Malayalam actress has come forward with allegations against a co-star, accusing him of insisting on adjusting her costume during a film shoot. The actress described the incident as intrusive and unprofessional, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable in any workplace, including film sets.

The actress recounted that during the shoot, the co-star approached her under the pretext of assisting with her attire, despite her clear discomfort and objections. She emphasized that the presence of a professional costume team makes such unsolicited interventions unnecessary and inappropriate.

This incident has reignited discussions about the treatment of women in the Malayalam film industry. In recent years, several actresses have spoken out about similar experiences, shedding light on the pervasive issues of harassment and lack of boundaries on sets.

The Malayalam film industry has been under scrutiny following multiple allegations of misconduct. Notably, actress Minu Muneer accused several prominent actors, including M. Mukesh and Jayasurya, of physical and verbal abuse during a 2013 film project. She stated that the harassment forced her to leave the industry and relocate to Chennai.

In another case, actress Honey Rose filed a complaint against a man for stalking and making sexually colored remarks after she declined his invitations. The police arrested the accused and initiated investigations against others involved in online harassment.

These incidents underscore the urgent need for systemic changes within the industry to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all professionals. Industry bodies and production houses are being called upon to implement strict protocols and provide support systems for those who come forward with complaints.

The actress's decision to speak out serves as a reminder of the challenges many face in the entertainment industry. Her courage adds to the growing chorus demanding accountability and reform in Malayalam cinema.
