IIE Digital Desk: A colourful parade, cultural performances and community events are being planned in the Boston area as part of an ambitious initiative by the Indian-American community to celebrate India's Independence Day.

In Boston on August 9, the Foundation of Indian-Americans-New England (FIA-new England) will throw the 5th International India Day Parade. This ceremony will acknowledge India's independence, its cultural diversity, and the long-standing connection between India and America.

Celebration: This year's theme is "Festival of Freedom & US–India Friendship".. Organizers have stated that the parade will include cultural programmes featuring community organizations, veterans and first responders, as well as 15 floats and tableaux from all over New England. Additionally, there will be thousands of participants in the event.

Grand Marshals in attendance include Colonel Inder Preet Singh, who was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal and US Navy Intelligence Specialist Maggie Lehman. Both individuals will be acknowledged for their contributions to their countries. The Chief Guest of Honor will also be Raghuram Sastry, the first Consul General of India in Boston. His involvement is likely to emphasize the growing significance of the Indian-American community in New England and the strengthening relationship between India and America.".

Deepak Rathore, the Executive Director of FIA-New England, declared that this year's event was the organization'd most extensive and dynamic edition yet. The celebration will highlight the values of freedom, democracy and cultural diversity as well as the partnership between the two countries.

A ceremony will be held to raise a flag, followed by dance and music performances. Besides community and nonprofit organizations, there will be displays, vendors market, and an annual Festival of Indian Cuisine that highlights various local dishes. Additionally, visitors can enjoy free admission to the marketplace.

Organizers have also welcomed as Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts declared August 15, 2026, as "India Day" for the fifth year running. It acknowledges the contributions of Indian-Americans to the state. The Boston festivities coincide with a momentous occasion for India-US relations and the Indian diasporum. The event is intended to unite individuals from different backgrounds by incorporating music, food, culture, and community participation, while simultaneously upholding India's customs over vast distances.

As the colours and spirit of India come to life on the streets of Boston, this celebration is expected to become a major meeting point for Indian-born Americans as well as showcasing their cultural connections with America.
