IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 8: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has once again skipped his scheduled appearance before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the alleged signature forgery case involving members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Instead, he has sent a formal letter to the investigating agency citing an upcoming court hearing.

Abhishek Banerjee informed the CID that a hearing related to the case is scheduled in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, and therefore he would not be able to appear on Monday as directed in the summons. The CID acknowledged receiving the letter and stated that further steps are being discussed internally regarding the next course of action.

The case pertains to allegations of forged signatures in official legislative proceedings, which has triggered a political controversy in West Bengal. Investigators had issued a notice requiring the TMC leader to appear before the CID office as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Abhishek Banerjee is currently in Delhi, where he had travelled on Saturday to attend an INDIA bloc meeting. He has remained in the national capital since then, further delaying his scheduled appearance before the investigating agency.

This is not the first time the TMC leader has missed a CID summons in connection with the case, with earlier instances also drawing political reactions from opposition parties. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not yet confirmed when he will next be asked to appear.

The matter has added further political tension in the state, with the opposition questioning the repeated delays, while TMC leaders maintain that due legal procedures and court-related matters must be respected before any investigative appearance.
