IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 13: The unprecedented police search operation that began at the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in the early hours of Saturday took an even more dramatic turn as the morning progressed. After a marathon search that lasted for several hours, Trinamool Congress supremo and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. Soon after her departure, Abhishek himself came forward and spoke to the media, expressing strong resentment and making a serious allegation that the police had broken the locks of his house during the search.

Little before 8 a.m. on Saturday, Mamata Banerjee was seen leaving the Kalighat residence of Abhishek Banerjee. Abhishek personally escorted the Trinamool leader to her vehicle at the gate of his house. As soon as Mamata left, he addressed the journalists waiting outside.

Abhishek Banerjee said, “My entire house has been searched. They broke the locks and carried out the search. However, the entire process has been recorded on camera. Now you should ask the investigating agency what they found during the search.”

His statement has already sparked intense political discussions. Political observers believe that the allegation of police breaking locks during the operation is likely to further intensify the legal and political confrontation in West Bengal.

The day progressed, the primary reason behind the early morning operation became clearer. According to police sources, around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, a team from Salboni Police Station in Paschim Medinipur suddenly arrived at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence on Harish Chatterjee Street. The main objective of the extensive search was reportedly to locate Abhishek Banerjee’s close aide and personal assistant, Sumit Roy.

Financial fraud case has been registered against Sumit Roy at Salboni Police Station. It was in connection with the investigation of that case that the police entered Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in search of him. Apart from the special team from Salboni Police Station, officers from the local Kalighat and Bhawanipur police stations also participated in the operation. Central force personnel were deployed outside the residence and had cordoned off the entire area to maintain strict security.

The news of the joint operation by police and central forces reached Mamata Banerjee in the early hours of the morning, she immediately rushed to Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. She remained inside the house for nearly four to five hours and closely monitored the developments during the operation. Around 8 a.m., after the situation became relatively normal, she left the residence in her vehicle. Observers noted a sense of determination in Abhishek Banerjee’s expression as he escorted her to the car.

The political temperature in the state has risen sharply over the incident, especially because the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned Abhishek Banerjee for questioning again on Sunday. The ruling Trinamool Congress is not taking lightly the fact that police entered the residence of its senior leader in the middle of the night, reportedly searching even inside his bedroom while looking for his personal assistant.

The Trinamool camp has alleged that the entire operation was carefully planned with the intention of politically targeting and harassing Abhishek Banerjee. On the other hand, questions have also been raised in various quarters regarding the manner in which the search was conducted, particularly after the allegation that locks were broken during the operation.

The latest reports, Salboni Police Station has not officially disclosed whether Sumit Roy was found during the operation or whether any documents or materials were recovered from Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. However, the dramatic events of Saturday’s early morning have already triggered a major political storm in West Bengal, and many believe that the controversy may have wider political implications in the days ahead.
