Abhishek Seeks Alternate Date, Will Not Appear at Bhawani Bhavan Due to Illness

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 1: Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee will not appear before investigators at Bhawani Bhavan on Monday in response to a summons issued in connection with an ongoing probe. Citing health-related issues, Abhishek Banerjee informed the authorities through a written communication that he would be unable to attend the scheduled appearance. Sources indicated that a request has also been made seeking an alternative date for his appearance.

The development comes in connection with the Assembly signature controversy case, in which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the CID to examine the matter. As part of the investigation, Abhishek Banerjee had been summoned to appear before CID officials at Bhawani Bhavan at 12 noon on Monday.

The Trinamool Congress leader has conveyed that he is currently suffering from health problems and is therefore unable to comply with the summons on the scheduled date. A formal letter explaining his inability to attend due to illness has reportedly been submitted to the investigating agency.

The CID had issued the notice as part of its ongoing inquiry into the alleged signature-related controversy connected to the West Bengal Assembly. Investigators were expected to question Abhishek Banerjee regarding various aspects of the case and seek his response to issues under examination by the SIT.

The MP unable to attend the proceedings on Monday, attention is now focused on the agency's next course of action and whether a fresh date will be granted for his appearance. Sources suggest that the request for a new date is currently under consideration.

The latest development has added another dimension to the high-profile investigation, which has attracted significant political and public attention in West Bengal. For now, Abhishek Banerjee's appearance before the CID has been postponed due to health reasons, pending further communication between his office and the investigating authorities.
