IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  Kolkata, May 26: Rajganj Block Development Officer (BDO) Prashant Barman has finally been arrested by the police. He was initially detained on Monday night and taken to the Eco Park Police Station in New Town, Kolkata. On Tuesday morning, he was formally arrested under the Motor Vehicles Act and is expected to be produced before the Barasat court.

The police sources, an application will also be filed in court seeking his custody in connection with an ongoing gold trader murder case, in which he has already been under investigation. The arrest marks a significant development in the long-pending case where he had reportedly been absconding for a considerable period.

The incident leading to his detention occurred on Monday night in New Town, where Prashant Barman allegedly hit a pedestrian with his vehicle. Eyewitness accounts and police reports suggest that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time and displayed erratic and disorderly behaviour following the incident. After the collision, an altercation reportedly broke out between him and the injured pedestrian.

Police further stated that Barman had been evading law enforcement for a long time in connection with the murder case involving a gold trader. His sudden detention came after the road incident, which ultimately led to his arrest under traffic violation charges, with further legal action likely to follow in the more serious criminal case.
