IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, July 25: Another First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee in connection with the alleged incident of organising a health camp at a resort in Pailan without the consent of the resort authorities. The case has been lodged at Bishnupur Police Station based on a complaint filed by resort representative Samiran Roy. The FIR also names Sumit Roy, a former close associate of Abhishek Banerjee, and Trinamool Congress MLA Dilip Mondal as accused. Police have registered the case following the complaint and have started an investigation into the allegations.

The complaint, the resort was allegedly forced to remain closed for nearly 40 days due to the organisation of the ‘Sebashray’ health programme. During this period, the resort authorities were reportedly responsible for arranging accommodation, food and transportation facilities for around 110 to 120 doctors and other staff members involved in the camp. The complaint further alleged that the entire cost of organising the programme was also borne by the resort management, resulting in significant financial losses, particularly during the peak tourism season.

The complainant has alleged that Dilip Mondal and Sumit Roy exerted pressure on the resort owner to allow the programme to be conducted on the premises. It has also been alleged that additional money was collected in the name of managing the local health camp. According to the complaint, the resort owner was threatened with vandalism and disruption of personal security if the demands for money were not fulfilled.

The complaint claimed that the resort suffered financial losses of around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh due to the organisation of the Sebashray and Sebashray-2 programmes during 2025 and 2026. The resort authorities alleged that they had to face both financial burden and operational difficulties because of the forced closure and arrangements made for the health camps.

The complaint, Samiran Roy said that they had been unable to approach the police earlier due to fear, as all the accused persons were allegedly influential individuals. He claimed that after the change of government in the state, they gained confidence and decided to seek legal action. Based on the complaint, police have initiated a probe under various sections related to extortion and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The registration of the FIR has added another legal challenge for Abhishek Banerjee, who has faced several cases after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in West Bengal. Several complaints have been filed against him in different parts of the state over various allegations. However, Abhishek Banerjee has repeatedly dismissed these cases as politically motivated and accused the ruling party of using investigative agencies and legal proceedings for political vendetta.

The Trinamool Congress leader had also approached the court seeking protection in connection with some of these cases. However, the court observed that blanket legal protection could not be granted and that each case would have to be examined according to its own facts and legal procedures.

The latest FIR related to the Sebashray health camp has triggered fresh political debate in West Bengal, with the ruling party and opposition parties likely to engage in further accusations over the issue. Police officials said that the investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
