
IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, May 23: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made a major announcement regarding the Ayushman Bharat health scheme. On Saturday, he addressed a press conference from Nabanna and shared details about the state-level rollout of the program.
The Chief Minister stated that Ayushman Bharat will be operational in the state starting from July. In the first phase, preparations are underway to enroll more than six million people who are already registered under the HealthSaathi program into the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He further added that individuals not currently associated with HealthSaathi will gradually be included under Ayushman Bharat to ensure wider coverage.
The press conference, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also announced that under the ‘Amrit Bharat’ initiative, up to 80 percent discount will be provided on medications for critical and chronic illnesses, aiming to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.
Additionally, he highlighted that preventive cervical cancer vaccination will commence in the state from May 30. As part of this central government initiative, over seven lakh adolescent girls across West Bengal will receive the vaccine dose, strengthening the state’s public health framework.
