IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 18: The cleanliness campaign was carried out in Bhawanipur, Kolkata, where state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul participated in the Swachhata Abhiyan programme. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta and Minister of State Purnima Chakraborty also took part in the cleanliness drive, holding brooms and joining the sanitation campaign.

The cleanliness programme, Minister Agnimitra Paul said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting West Bengal. On June 20, ‘West Bengal Day’ will be observed. On June 21, International Yoga Day will be celebrated, and for this purpose a six-day cleanliness campaign has been launched. We have named it ‘Swachhata se Swagat’. We want every citizen to work shoulder to shoulder with us and help make Bengal and the city clean.”

She further added, “We have introduced a penalty system which will come into effect from September 1. We are giving a three-month awareness period until August so that people can understand the rules. After September 1, anyone found littering in public places, spitting, or urinating in open areas will be fined. We have also decided to set up ‘Sulabh complexes’ at various locations.”

Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta said that two major programmes have been planned. “June 20 is West Bengal Foundation Day. For the first time, we will officially celebrate West Bengal Day, and the Prime Minister will take part in it. Secondly, for the first time, the Prime Minister will also participate in Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata. Therefore, a grand welcome has been organised for these occasions,” he said.
