According to police sources, the sudden operation was carried out in connection with the investigation into an alleged financial fraud case. The high-profile search has triggered a major political storm, especially as the state investigative agency, the Criminal Investigation Department, has summoned Abhishek Banerjee again for questioning on Sunday.

Local and police sources, before dawn broke on Saturday, a large contingent of police personnel suddenly surrounded Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. A special team from the Salboni Police Station of Paschim Medinipur district was reportedly leading the operation. Officers from Kalighat Police Station and Bhawanipur Police Station were also present at the location to assist with the search.
