IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 3: Firhad Hakim has resigned from the post of Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. On Wednesday, amid political turbulence over the formation of the “real Trinamool Congress” in the Assembly, he submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and sought to be relieved from the responsibility with dignity. The Chief Minister accepted his request and granted approval.

Notably, before submitting his resignation, Firhad Hakim also attended a meeting at Nabanna with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on the same day.

The resignation comes at a time when political developments within the Assembly have intensified, with discussions and tensions surrounding internal realignments within the Trinamool Congress. Firhad Hakim reportedly expressed his wish to step down from the mayoral post while continuing to remain active in political and administrative responsibilities in other capacities.

The decision has triggered fresh political discussions in West Bengal, especially in Kolkata civic circles, as Firhad Hakim has been one of the key administrative faces of the city’s municipal governance for several years.
