IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Baranagar, May 23: Four people, including Trinamool Congress leader Shankar Raut, have been arrested in connection with an alleged extortion and assault case in Baranagar. Apart from the TMC leader, the arrested individuals include Arpan Dutta and another person identified as Boni. The arrests were made following a disturbance that reportedly took place in the Baranagar area on Saturday night.

Police sources, the accused became involved in a confrontation and were allegedly linked to acts of intimidation and physical assault. It has also been alleged that after the incident, Shankar Raut reached Baranagar State General Hospital in a vehicle carrying a police sticker. The presence of the vehicle and the accused at the hospital triggered protests from local residents, who gathered and surrounded the car in anger.

The tension and public outrage, police took action and arrested the accused on Saturday morning. The incident has created considerable controversy in the area and once again brought Shankar Raut into the spotlight over criminal allegations.

This is not the first time Shankar Raut’s name has surfaced in police records. Earlier this year, on February 13, Shankar Raut and his close associate Arpan Dutta were accused of assaulting an interior designer in Baranagar. Both had reportedly spent time in jail in connection with that case.

The earlier legal action, fresh allegations of extortion and violence have now emerged against the TMC leader and his associates. Police have started an investigation into the latest incident and are examining all aspects of the case. Further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
