IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 18: The Trinamool Congress that the old government security personnel (PSOs) assigned to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been removed. TMC Rajya Sabha floor leader Derek O’Brien stated on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday night that these security personnel had been serving Mamata Banerjee for two decades.

Derek O’Brien’s claim, during a rally held on Wednesday from Dharmatala to Subodh Mullick Square by the former Chief Minister, the old police personnel responsible for her security were seen on duty. However, around 7:30 pm, the PSOs were allegedly removed and replaced with a few new appointees.

TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee said on Thursday that it is extremely unfortunate that the PSOs who had been with Mamata Banerjee for the past 20 years have been removed. He further stated that he has been informed that although new PSOs were appointed, she did not accept them. Calling it an act of dictatorship, he added that the issue of PSOs is based on trust and if there is no trust in a PSO, it should be clearly stated. He also alleged that the Chief Minister’s attitude is highly vindictive and that such incidents are happening because of this vindictive mindset.

BJP MLA Asim Sarkar said that a former Chief Minister will be provided the level of security that is appropriate and required for her protection.
